Idaho Digital Learning Academy

Idaho Digital Learning was created by the Idaho State Legislature (Title 33, Chapter 55 Idaho Code, 2002) and Idaho educators, developed for Idaho students, and is recognized as a leader across the nation in online virtual education. Idaho Digital Learning was created to provide access, equity, and flexibility for students in the state of Idaho according to its statutory authority, and Idaho Digital Learning enables the state to meet its constitutional requirement to provide a uniform and thorough educational system. By creating Idaho Digital Learning, an online state school, the Idaho Legislature, school administrators, and school boards created a consolidation of 115 school districts with highly qualified teachers, online courses, virtual services, and eLearning expertise for the state in online virtual education policy, procedure, and implementation.

Specialities
Cohort courses are offered on a 12 week or 16 week schedule with predetermined start and end dates which closely follow traditional school calendars, with the exception of a 6 week Driver Education course that is offered throughout the year. In this setting, students move through the course material with their peers. Academy courses are delivered 100% asynchronously so students can take their courses at any time of the day and from anywhere they have internet access. Cohort courses provide ample opportunity for students to interact with their teacher and with their peers.
Flex courses are designed to be delivered on a flexible schedule that is driven by the student needs. These self-paced courses allow students to work at their own speed and on their own schedule. Flex courses also allow students to be exempted from specific content if they are able to demonstrate mastery of that content through a unit pre-test. Students testing out of content would still need to complete the full unit post-test and any other assessment activities for the unit. Flex courses are fully online courses that are designed with additional flexibility of scheduling and pacing as compared to cohort courses.
Hybrid courses offer synchronous lectures and lessons to students via video conference as an opportunity for additional instruction, assessment, and practice in our traditional asynchronous courses. The blend of online and video conference provides authentic learning experiences in areas such as foreign languages, math, speech, and science. Hybrid courses foster an interactive learning environment reinforced with rich online activities offering students a high quality online learning experience.
