You know that your kids have something special inside them. We know it too. Chicago Virtual Charter School (CVCS) and K¹² ignite the minds of children like yours to bring learning and innate possibility alive. Together, we are helping Chicago students in grades K–12 reach their true, personal potential.

At CVCS, it is our mission to empower our students from Kindergarten through high school with innovative and evidence-based learning solutions that allow them to flourish in all academic settings. Our dedicated staff work to provide the most challenging curriculum based within an immersive learning environment. To this end, as educational leaders, we’re focused on implementing new educational advancements that encourage robust feedback.

Moreover, census data such as zip code, ethnicity or economic state, doesn’t predetermine a child’s learning potential, which is why education (curricula, resources, etc.) at CVCS is personalized for each student. It is our goal to work with every parent and student. Our ability to rise to the proper balance of formal education and experience helps us provide each student with the requisite personalized tools to grow as academic leaders.

Nevertheless, we believe our hybrid model proves that academic success is maximized when both students and parents are engaged. We’re fundamentally motivated by the fact that parents are the first teachers for their children. For this reason, we strive to enrich our parents as “Learning Coaches” with a strategic and intentional focus on streamlining availability.

Specialities

Depending on your student’s needs, a team of dedicated educations and specialists such as Special Education teachers, case managers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, and outside professionals therapists such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers work closely with families to give your student the individualized support they need.

tudents who have a 504 or IEP will be supported at both, The Learning Center, and live online sessions. Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Section 504 is an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met. An IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is dictated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and is a written document that’s developed for each public-school child who is eligible for special education. The IEP is created through a team effort and reviewed at least once a year.

The formal documentation (504/IEP) indicates precisely the type of support the student will receive at the school. Parents who have questions about the Special Ed program or need more information about 504s and IEPs are encouraged to reach out to the Special Ed Case Manager.

The ALP program is designed to meet the needs of academically gifted/talented students who benefit from additional challenge and enrichment. Our Advanced Learner’s Program challenges student to go above and beyond. Teachers make recommendations in January for the second semester and in May for the following school year. Parents who are interested in having their child part of the program are encouraged to contact their child’s homeroom teacher.

Our ELL teachers work with the regular teachers, students, and families to assess student language gaps, then create language objectives to target and fill those gaps while monitoring student progress and giving critical feedback along the way. At the start of the year, your student will complete a Home Language Survey, Information from the survey will indicate if the student qualifies for ELL support. If the student qualifies for ELL support, then the ELL teacher will notify the Learning Coach/Parent of the support services that will be provided and the additional assessments that will be administered during academic year.
